One of the inevitable consequences of aging is the loss of volume. Generally, the aging process combined with other factors leads to loss of volume. As we age, we lose volume from the cheek areas, and consequently, the nasolabial fold will become deep and noticeable. Equally, the lips will become thin and wrinkly. The only way to restore the volume and treat these signs of aging in the cheeks and lips is to refill these areas. There are different types of “fillers” that can be used to restore the lost facial volume, such as injectable fillers (Restylane and Juvederm) or and your own fat tissue (fat transfer). Effectively, fat tissue can be harvested as fat grafts from your body and injected to produce a fuller cheek or lip.

Am I Suitable For Fat Transfer Surgery?

The procedure of the autologous fat graft or fat transfer is suitable for patients with:

  • Lost fullness, causing the cheeks to flatten and wrinkles to form.
  • Deep nasolabial folds.
  • Excess facial skin.
  • A positive self-image in general of themselves.
  • Good physical and mental health.

How Is The Fat Transfer Done?

Dr. Mounir starts the fat transfer procedure by harvesting the fat cells from the inner thighs or abdomen areas. Then he will use a centrifuge to extract the fat cells before injecting them into the face. Only a small needle is used to graft the facial tissue; therefore, fat transfer patients do not need any bandages or special care after their fat transfer procedures. During the autologous fat transplantation, fat transfer, autologous fat grafts, or the so-called micro-lipo injection, the fat tissue is carefully harvested from the thighs and prepared as fat grafts with centrifuge and grafted in the areas of the face where the volume enhancement is needed. Dr. Mounir uses fat transfer or autologous fat grafts to rejuvenate the face by restoring the fullness of your lips, cheeks, and other areas that have lost volume due to aging.

Micro-lipo can often be very useful to rejuvenate aged hands and/or add volume to arms and buttocks. Autologous fat transfer is one of the most popular techniques of facial rejuvenation mainly because it uses the patient’s own body fat. Unlike injectable fillers (Restylane and Juvederm), the fat transfer procedure does not involve using any foreign material. Consequently, there is no risk of an allergic reaction, and it is a long-lasting solution compared to Restylane and Juvederm. Unfortunately, some of the transferred fat cells will be absorbed by the body. Therefore, Dr. Mounir will certainly warn you that you may need more than one fat transfer to tune up the cosmetic outcome. In fact, many patients schedule multiple fat injections to maintain the beautiful rejuvenation result.

Recovery after Fat Transfer Surgery

After your Fat Transfer at the Manchester Cosmetic Centre, Dr. Mounir will discharge you on the same day.

You will need someone to drive you back home and to stay with you at least 24 hours after your fat transfer procedure. Dr. Mounir will ask you to have a soft diet for the first two weeks, such as soups, to avoid damaging your results. The grafted cells do need to settle in order to receive the needed blood supply and survive. Usually, the fat grafts are performed as an isolated procedure under local anesthesia.

Dr. Mounir will ask you to have at least seven days off work. If the fat autologous graft procedure is done in combination with other facial cosmetic procedures, you may need two weeks off work. Swelling is common, and it usually takes up to three months to start seeing the fat grafting results. Light physical activity may be resumed after two weeks postoperatively after fat grafting. Dr. Mounir will review you after one week, six weeks, and three months. Your relationship with Dr. Mounir does not end after the fat graft procedure; he will closely monitor your healing process and advise you on all issues regarding your recovery.

Your uniqueness is beautiful. At Manchester Cosmetic Centre, our goal is to complement and highlight your unique beauty so that you can realize your ideal you.
