Patients with very big and saggy breasts usually do present some medical symptoms. Effectively, due to the excessive weight of the breast women do usually complain about back and neck pain and skin irritation. Often Bra straps may leave indentations on their shoulders. Sometimes, big breasts can make a woman-or a teenage girl feel extremely self-conscious.
Brest reduction or the so-called reduction mammoplasty is designed to reduce the size and volume of the breast. The surgical manoeuvre removes glandular tissue, and fat from the breasts, making them smaller and lighter. Reducing the skin from the breast and the areola would also make the breast firmer and uplifted. However, the main goal of the surgery should be to reshape the breast and make them in proportion with the rest oft he body.
Usually the woman’s breasts will lose its firmness and start to sag because of the aging process and factors such as pregnancy, breast feeding, and weight changes. However, breast sagginess has been also associated with the skin collagen deterioration. This means that genetic factor could also have an impact on the breast shape. Effectively, Dr Mounir does often see in his clinic young patients complaining about breast sagginess and requesting breast reshaping and Uplift. During his consultation, Dr Mounir always try to explain to his patient that no surgery can permanently stop the effects of gravity and that the skin may always re-stretch leading to another sagginess. The goal of the mastopexy surgery is to achieve a lifting of the breast but can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. However if the breasts have lost volume mainly and are less firm, breast implants inserted in conjunction with breast uplift can increase both their firmness and their fullness. This is called breast augmentation with uplift or mastopexy with implants.
Inverted nipples or retraction of the nipples is a condition in which the nipple ducts are shorter than normal and there is a tethering or pulling inward of the nipple. Retraction of the nipple is caused by a short milk duct system running from the chest wall to the nipple. Although a benign condition, it is usually perceived as a problem for women who wish to breast-feed. Development of nipple retraction in adults should be evaluated to make sure a tumor is not the cause of retraction. Today, there are two types of procedures that address this – those that preserve ductal integrity and those that do not.
